What Are Summer Tires Good For?

For road trips, summer activities, and even daily driving, making the switch to summer tires when the seasons change benefits your fuel economy, tire life, and your vehicle's driving performance. With a wide range of summer tire models and sizes available, finding a high quality tire to enhance the look and performance of your ride is both beneficial and simple.

Why Switch from Winter to Summer tires?

Just as you wouldn’t want to be driving summer tires in snow, you’ll want to make the winter-to-summer tires change as the weather gets warm. In the warmer, drier conditions of spring and summer, your winter tire’s large tread blocks and extra flexible rubber can actually become a setback. For example, the softer rubber compound wears down more quickly, which means driving your winter tires during the summer will shorten the tread life of your tires.

A softer rubber tire compound, paired with larger areas of tread also means increased rolling resistance, since more of the tire will be touching the road while driving. Increased rolling resistance requires more energy usage from your car, which in turn will increase your fuel consumption and fuel emissions.

When you’ve been working long hours anticipating your summer getaways, the last thing you want is the combination of higher fuel costs and fast tire wear to put an extra drain on your hard-earned savings.

The Stormblazer CLX20 Crossover is a quality hybrid tire with All-Weather engineering.

Which Summer Performance Tires Should I Use?

For summer adventures on beaches, trails, or other off-road types of terrain, the Mudblazer CLX9, the Rogueblazer CLX12, or the Rangeblazer CLX10 tires are extremely durable, built to withstand rugged terrain, and are F-Rated for towing and hauling (in select sizes). These are reliable tires!
The Stormblazer CLX20 is specially designed for CUV and SUVs, and in addition to its durability and hybrid tread design, also offers F-Rated capability in select sizes, and a dual sidewall design for extra sidewall protection and tire traction.

For longer highway drives, the Roadblazer CLX11 is a premium highway tire that comes with Road Hazard protection, as does the CLV2, which is an All-Season CUV/SUV Highway tire.

For the daily driver who wants to save money on fuel costs and tire replacements, the LS388 Touring tire offers good handling, stability, and includes Road Hazard Protection. It’s also constructed with a fuel-saving, long-lasting tread compound and a low-wear shoulder to protect against irregular wear.

For a good All-Season tire that provides traction and flexibility even in low temperatures, both the LS588 Ultra High-Performance and the LS588 CUV/SUV Performance tires are All-Season offerings that have the unique LS Silica compound, which is fuel-efficient, and increases tire flexibility and traction in cold and wet conditions.

Roll out those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer.
